project updates 10.10.24
first, i want to recognize that a couple days ago marked 365 days since ‘israel’ started its invasion of Gaza as well as continuing to advance its occupation of the West Bank of Palestine. The conditions that Palestinians have been going through are horrific and inhumane and can be stopped if the ‘US’ stopped funding its zionist christofascist settler colonial funding. check out sites like gazafunds.com or donate directly to people we are supporting like @idkk.shahed and @donia.abazed who are supporting themselves and family through this horror. decolonization means the end of the zionist state. environmental justice means a free Palestine.
now, here are some updates on our personal project that we are working on: our muck house’s Muck House.
our trailer: we’re being gifted a trailer by some friends and are working on fixing it up to be livable during a desert winter and then a desert summer. the bad news is that we aren’t able to move it closer to us in order to work on it, the good news is that the things we thought we needed to fix isn’t too bad! our finances restrict us to fixing very specific items needed for travel which is less stressful in general so that we don’t have to do so much in a very transitional space.
the land: buying a plot of land for ourselves was not something we were looking to do so early on in our efforts. lots of changes have happened that cut down our timeline from expecting to have over a year to figure out our needs, to having from fall to spring, to having about a month or two to get our shit together.
the current timeline: october will be a month to focus on the immediate repair needs that we can work on and pay for. basically the whole budget that folks have helped us fundraise for over the summer will be going towards replacing the tires so that we can move the trailer, resealing the roof to be able to withstand snow, rain, and sun, and repairing water damaged walls. the water damage is what we were expecting would take up the most of our time and budget but the frame is aluminum and the original insulation is fine.
at the same time as fixing the trailer, we’ll be more seriously looking at land plots in order to make offers on ones we can afford. right now our hopes are to obtain 2-5 acres to be able to start a lot of the necessary projects to have people to live alongside us.
november will be another moving month for us, either right to our new home or couch surfing in case other things go down. the hope right now is to be able to get settled before it starts snowing in the valley.
needs in the near future: here are some things we’ll need to figure out-
- how long it actually takes to obtain plots of land
- the formal process of signing papers etc
- how to get an address
- what land survey or other fees will be
- how much it’ll cost to drive the trailer from where it is to where we want it to be
- how much it’ll cost to drive us to where we want to be
- if we have the water, mineral, and surface rights to the land
we’re steadfast in our objectives for this whole thing! i keep reminding myself that the stress of the current moment we’re in doesn’t detract from the importance of being able to get our goals figured out to the next stage.
